Birth place of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji
As per the wish of Shri Guru Amardas Ji, Shri Guru Ramdas Ji visited the land of Amritsar to establish a new city. First of all, Guru Ji started living in Chapri (hut) house to live. This chapari (hut) was the first house of the new city. The name of the new city was ‘Guru Ka Chakk’ the Guru’s Place then ‘Rasdaspur’ and finally named Shri Amritsar. Guru Ramdas Ji, Guru Arjan Dev Ji and Guru Harigobind Sahib lived 58 years in the Guru ke Mehal(Guru’s Palace). While staying here, Shri Santoksar, Shri Darbar Sahib and Shri Akal Takht Sahib were served by Guru Sahib. The Guru Ji built water well for drinking and for bathing, which still exists today.
Guru Ramdas Ji married Guru Arjan Dev Ji here, Guru Arjan Dev ji sent Mata Ganga Ji to Baba Budha Ji from here to get the son’s wish fulfilled, With the blessings of which Guru Harigobind Sahib Ji was born in Guru Ki Wadali, Chheharta, Shri Amritsar.
Guru Harigobind Sahib ji was also married in Guru ke mehal. Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s Birh date (1st April 1621 AD) took place in Guru ke mehal from the womb of Mata Nanki Ji at Guru Harigobind Sahib’s house and Baba Suraj Mal, Anni Rai ji, Baba Atal Rai ji and Bibi Veero ji were also born here. Preparations for the marriage of Bibi Veeroji were made to the Guru ke mehal here, but suddenly the Mughals attacked, the rest of the marriage ceremony of Bibi Veeroji was done in Jhabbal.
The service of this holy place was started by Sant Baba Sewa Singh Ji Fort Anandgarh, Shri Anandpur Sahib. Now this place is being served by Sant Baba Labh Singh Ji Fort Anandgarh. Baba ji has bought about 91 houses next to the gurudwara and merged it in the gurudwara. The Langar hall building has been ready. Sant Baba Labh Singh is getting all the work done by putting gold layer on the dome over the gurudwara and buying new houses and kar sewa. Right now, In Gurdwara Guru ke mehal, the service of building ‘Diwan Hall’, Langar hall and gates is being carried by Sant Baba Labh Singh Ji.
